In Breakfast with Seneca, philosopher David Fideler mines Seneca's classic works in a series of focused chapters, clearly explaining Seneca's ideas without oversimplifying them. Best enjoyed as a daily ritual, like an energizing cup of coffee, Seneca's wisdom provides us with a steady stream of time-tested advice about the human condition - which, as it turns out, hasn't changed much over the past 2,000 years.

Irvine plumbs the wisdom of Stoic philosophy, one of the most popular and successful schools of thought in ancient Rome, and shows how its insight and advice are still remarkably applicable to modern lives. In A Guide to the Good Life, Irvine offers a refreshing presentation of Stoicism, showing how this ancient philosophy can still direct us toward a better life.

Whenever we worry about what to eat, how to love, or simply how to be happy, we are worrying about how to lead a good life. No goal is more elusive. In How to Be a Stoic, philosopher Massimo Pigliucci offers Stoicism, the ancient philosophy that inspired the great emperor Marcus Aurelius, as the best way to attain it. Stoicism is a pragmatic philosophy that teaches us to act depending on what is within our control and separate things worth getting upset about from those that are not.

Stoicism, a school of Hellenistic thought founded in Athens in the third century BC, was one of the most sublime philosophies in the history of Western civilization. It is a way of living that focuses on reality instead of fantasy or idealism. Histoire
Epictetus, a Greek stoic and freed slave, ran a thriving philosophy school in Nicropolis in the early second century AD. His animated discussions were celebrated for their rhetorical wizardry and were written down by Arrian, his most famous pupil. Together with the Enchiridion, a manual of his main ideas, and the fragments collected here, The Discourses argue that happiness lies in learning to perceive exactly what is in our power to change and what is not, and in embracing our fate to live in harmony with god and nature.

Eating is an indispensable human activity. As a result, whether we realize it or not, the drive to obtain food has been a major catalyst across all of history, from prehistoric times to the present. Epicure Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin said it best: "Gastronomy governs the whole life of man."

Description
Distilled to its essence, the ancient Greco-Roman philosophy known as Stoicism is a philosophy of personal betterment. Professor Pigliucci, who knows firsthand just how transformative a Stoic approach to life can be, has designed these 25 lessons as an enlightening introduction to the basics of Stoic philosophy and ways to incorporate its lessons into your own life.
For example, the Stoic understanding of ethics was far broader than the study of right and wrong, encompassing questions concerning one’s goals and one’s relationship to other people. Also, the Stoics felt that logic was another requirement of a well-lived life, because good thinking helps protect us from living according to nonsensical notions.
Throughout the course, you’ll investigate what these great philosophers’ words and deeds can teach us about living life in the 21st century. What does Seneca tell us about managing our time in the best way possible? Why did Epictetus suggest to debate patiently with disagreeable people? Can Marcus Aurelius’ philosophy of being mindful of the labels we give ourselves help make the world a better place?
This course includes plenty of exercises you can use to retrain your mind to take on a more Stoic view of your life and the world around you. Yes, you’ll come away with an incredible wealth of knowledge about the history and principles of one of the most enduring philosophies of life - but you’ll also be on your way to a more meaningful life for yourself.

Terrific - ancient wisdom for modern times
This is the epitome of practical philosophy and a wonderful blueprint for living one’s life. Lessons were tied up and reinforced, focusing on the fundamentals of Stoicism. Pigliucci’s delivery is tight, efficient and laced with good humor and examples of Stoicism in action. This for anyone who’s looking for a set of secular principles to guide one’s behavior.

My Favorite Book about Stoicism
I have repeatedly listened to this audiobook. I am currently reading the accompanying pdf. Massimo Pigliucci is a excellent presenter and very easy to listen to. This is better than any other book about Stoicism that I have read/heard so far. My only small reservation is that I do not wish to hear about atheism just Stoicism, that is why I purchased it. Highly recommended .

Amazing reference for living a good life!
Pigliucci does an amazing job of modernizing the ancient philosophy of stoicism and clearly explains how it can be used in anyone's life to find more meaning, happiness, and richness. His own reading as well is excellent as his great enthusiasm for the subject comes through terrifically, accentuating the lessons with a passion that highlights them even more. Highly recommended.

A Dynamic Understanding of Stoic Philosophy
The strength: The distinguished understanding and teaching of Stoic philosophy which exposes the misunderstood and misused version of it that some multimillionaires deploy to justify their unjust impact and lack of responsibility on the the human society.
The imperfections: The course could have been outlined and structured better for being more effective and efficient.

It's okay, but there are better resources on stoicism out there
The lectures are a bit dull at times, and he repeats the same phrases over and over again so often that I thought there was a playback issue with Audible at first, but that's just his lecturing style. And to make things weirder, he introduces the phrase as if it's a new concept every time even though we've heard it five or six times already in earlier lectures.
