Angela Merkel has always been an outsider. A pastor’s daughter raised in Soviet-controlled East Germany, she spent her twenties working as a research chemist, entering politics only after the fall of the Berlin Wall. And yet within fifteen years, she had become chancellor of Germany and, before long, the unofficial leader of the West. In this “masterpiece of discernment and insight” (The New York Times Book Review), acclaimed biographer Kati Marton sets out to pierce the mystery of Merkel’s unlikely ascent.

Martha Piper and Indira Samarasekera had vastly different career paths on their way to becoming the first (and so far only) female presidents of two of Canada's largest and most respected research universities and directors of some of the nation's largest market cap companies, but what they had in common was their gender, their willingness to take risks when leadership opportunities presented themselves, and a work ethic second to none. It was not always easy, pretty, or fair, but it was always the result of choosing to answer the call to lead.

Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

Histoire
Being a CEO at any of the world’s largest companies is among the most challenging roles in business. Billions, and even trillions, are at stake—and the fates of tens of thousands of employees often hang in the balance. Yet, even when “can’t miss” high-achievers win the top job, very few excel. For those who shoulder the burden of being the one on whom everyone counts, a manual for excellence is sorely needed. To identify the 21st century’s best CEOs, the authors of CEO Excellence started with a pool of over 2,400 public company CEOs.

Description
A New York Times Best Seller
An intimate and powerful memoir by the trailblazing former CEO of PepsiCo
For a dozen years as one of the world’s most admired CEOs, Indra Nooyi redefined what it means to be an exceptional leader. The first woman of color and immigrant to run a Fortune 50 company - and one of the foremost strategic thinkers of our time - she transformed PepsiCo with a unique vision, a vigorous pursuit of excellence, and a deep sense of purpose. Now, in a rich memoir brimming with grace, grit, and good humor, My Life in Full offers a firsthand view of Nooyi’s legendary career and the sacrifices it so often demanded.
Nooyi takes us through the events that shaped her, from her childhood and early education in 1960s India, to the Yale School of Management, to her rise as a corporate consultant and strategist who soon ascended into the most senior executive ranks. The book offers an inside look at PepsiCo, and Nooyi’s thinking as she steered the iconic American company toward healthier products and reinvented its environmental profile, despite resistance at every turn.
For the first time and in raw detail, Nooyi also lays bare the difficulties that came with managing her demanding job with a growing family, and what she learned along the way. She makes a clear, actionable, urgent call for business and government to prioritize the care ecosystem, paid leave, and work flexibility, and a convincing argument for how improving company and community support for young family builders will unleash the economy’s full potential.
Generous, authoritative, and grounded in lived experience, My Life in Full is the story of an extraordinary leader’s life, a moving tribute to the relationships that created it, and a blueprint for 21st-century prosperity.
Ce que les critiques en disent
“With candor and good humor, Nooyi has written a wonderful book that brings her story to life, from her early years in India, surrounded by love and high expectations, to her determined efforts to succeed in the corporate world, all the while questioning the tradeoffs she had to make. She reveals just how our society continues to sacrifice talent instead of changing how we organize work to maximize everyone’s potential to live full and productive lives. A must-read for working women and the men who work with us, love us, and support us.” (Hillary Rodham Clinton)
“Gritty, joyous, and visionary, Nooyi tells the story of an everyday person living an extraordinary life, leading beautifully and confidently from the front. A must-read for all.” (Ursula M. Burns, former chair and CEO of Xerox, author of Where You Are Is Not Who You Are)
“‘CEO’ and ‘care’ do not usually go together, but for Indra Nooyi, they always have. Rather than offering us a list of policy prescriptions, she shows us what is possible when businesses care about family and families have time to care for one another.” (Anne-Marie Slaughter, CEO of New America, author of Unfinished Business)

moving and passionate
This book is a testimony to what women can do when they are determined, and get some support along the way. Indra Nooyi shows how our accomplishments are played out in the complimentary worlds of standing on the shoulders of giants and putting forth our best effort. it is a passionate plea to create systems that support workers and families as we blend care and work responsibilities throughout the stages of our lives.

Excellent read
A rare glimpse into the rise and life of a CEO of a major corporation, let alone through the lens of a woman’s experience.
I wish more people in power (corporate & government) shared her views on the needs of parents in the workforce.
At a minimum Chapter 12 should be required reading for all politicians and corporate C-suite executives.

inspiring, and thoughful
Loved this book, Ms. Nooyi is incredibly inspiring and provides many insightful suggestions and encouragements for especially the female readers. Articulating many of the challenges we as women in executive roles face instead of turning a blind eye is refreshing. thank you for recognizing the reality and showing women greatness in leadership and careers is also possible.

Purpose and Gratitude
As someone with a 25 year career tenure in corporate marketing environment so much of her journey and how she pivoted the digital transformation era was relevant to me. Absolutely loved this immigrant success story of attaining the American dream. The retirement chapters were my favourite with the focus on women in the workplace and the economic opportunity they present. Highlighting the systematic need to incorporate access to care (child/senior) to support the work/family debate, as a foundation for success. Thank you Indra for your purpose driven life that has inspired and shattered glass ceilings for the rest of us.
