Histoire
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

This is the first volume in a bold new series that tells the stories of all peoples, connecting historical events from Europe to the Middle East to the far coast of China, while still giving weight to the characteristics of each country. Susan Wise Bauer provides both sweeping scope and vivid attention to the individual lives that give flesh to abstract assertions about human history. This narrative history employs the methods of "history from beneath" - literature, epic traditions, private letters, and accounts - to connect kings and leaders with the lives of those they ruled.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Little is known about the Ancient Greek oral poet Homer, the supposed 8th century BC author of the world-read Iliad and his later masterpiece, The Odyssey. These classic epics provided the basis for Greek education and culture throughout the classical age and formed the backbone of humane education through the birth of the Roman Empire and the spread of Christianity.

An absorbing retelling of Greek myths.
Stephen Fry's love of Greek myth from childhood and the stories he read then, shines through this audiobook. It was great.
I also really enjoyed hearing the story of the Greek gods through time, and of the gods' interactions with men. There are so many good stories. ... and I'll think of his comments towards the end, when he ponders on the reasons why these myths stick to us and continue to hold meaning and richness.

A tremendously pleasing telling of myth. This book transported my mind to glory, betrayal, honour, and all the human emotions of past tales. Mr. Fry is a solid and gentle announcer of splendid origins and woeful story.

Enchanting and Masterfully Performed
A wonderful retelling of tales I'd only knew in very scant detail beforehand. Given new life by the exceptionally talented and erudite Mr.Fry, I found myself absorbed in this ancient world, characters leapt into full form one after the other and gave me new appreciation for the pure enjoyment of myths on their own without dissection. I look forward to the next two in the series.
