Publisher's Summary

The number-one New York Times best-selling author of Infected delivers medieval carnage as a pre-industrial society fights extinction at the hands of a massive infestation of Xenomorphs.

Ataegina was an isolated world of medieval castles, varied cultures, and conquests, vibrant until the demons rose and spread relentless destruction. Swarms of lethal creatures with black husks, murderous claws, barbed tails, and dreaded “tooth-tongues” raged through the lowlands, killing 90 percent of the planet’s population. Terrified survivors fled to hidden mountain keeps where they eke out a meager existence. When a trio of young warriors discovers a new weapon, they see a chance to end this curse. To save humanity, the trio must fight their way to the tunnels of Black Smoke Mountain - the lair of the mythical Demon Mother.

unexpected

Wow, I've been on a tangent for alien books. And this was extremely unexpected. it's worth a listen if you are a fan of the alien franchise and love greek/Roman settings. it really is a great standalone book.

Great listen.

Scott’s take on the Alien franchises shows his love for the series. It’s a fantastic listen and Bronson brings the story alive. Really well done

Good Story Overall

The story starts off slow until the mid point of the book. However it makes up for it by the end.

Unique Setting For A Xenomorph Tale

Scott Sigler provides a fascinating AlienTM reality: a continent ('Ataegina') where humans at a Classical Era level of development cower underground while "demons" hunt on the surface (think Greco-Roman historical figures lining up behind shields and wielding bronze spears). Teams of young people known as "Runners" race between communities carrying information & needed trade goods.
The imaginative scenario is well-thought-out and well-delivered. The pacing is a little bit iffy but the plotting is impeccable, the action is well-scripted, and description & dialogue are mind's-eye realistic.
Less fortunately, Sigler's chosen team of Runners to explore include cookie-cutter female YA heroine 'Ahalia Cooper'; obligatory handsome, überethical, self-sacrificing warrior 'Brandon'; and stuttering, foul-mouthed, "edgy", comic relief teen 'Creen'. The Hollywood stereotypes are sometimes eye-roll-worthy.

As to presentation: Bronson Pinchot is typically excellent. His tone is occasionally disinterested on this project, but his diction, timbre, cadence, and voice-acting are peerless. Creen's speech impediment, in particular, sounds incredibly authentic.

Despite a couple of limitations, I judge 'Aliens: Phalanx' worthy of 9.5 stars out of 10. It's frankly surprising that the audiobook is in the 'Plus' catalog.. because it would easily rate a Credit. Download it immediately.

A wonderfully fresh take on the Alien franchise

I am a great fan of science fiction, and probably because of that, I am a fan of the Alien franchise. When I heard that one of my favourite authors (Scott Sigler) was contributing a piece of literature to the Alien lore, I was very excited, and my anticipation was very high. But I was a little worried that I was setting myself up to be disappointed.

Having just finished listening to the book (and finding it very hard to put down), I realized that my high expectations have been met, but in an unexpected way! I’m not going to give away any of the plot, but this was an incredibly unique take on this decades old franchise.

I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys the Alien movies and stories, and especially to all of Scott’s fans (if you haven’t checked out his other work, you really should).

Fuck yeah!!!!

As usual, the FDO kills it !! This would definitely make the best of the Alien universe movies. Let’s get that done. 🖤

Make it into a Movie

A very different Alien story, but one of my favorites.
Narrator does a great job once you get used to his teenage voices.

Crude language

The author has one character that relies heavily on crude language especially in the beginning. As the story progresses the characters language seems to soften.
