Story
Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid. The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss. Derek’s father Buddy Lee was almost as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal. Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy.

"Lazarre-White masterfully portrays people of multiple races, old and young. He also delivers Cosby's reflections on family, grief, and faith with genuine introspection and without distracting from the tense plotlines...This is a gripping, timely tale—beautifully told."—AudioFile (Earphones Award winner)
The new novel from New York Times bestselling and Los Angeles Times Book Prize-winning author S. A. Cosby, "one of the most muscular, distinctive, grab-you-by-both-ears voices in American crime fiction.”—The Washington Post.
A Black sheriff. A serial killer.
A small town ready to combust.
Titus Crown is the first Black sheriff in the history of Charon County, Virginia. In recent decades, quiet Charon has had only two murders. But after years of working as an FBI agent, Titus knows better than anyone that while his hometown might seem like a land of moonshine, cornbread, and honeysuckle, secrets always fester under the surface.
Then a year to the day after Titus’s election, a school teacher is killed by a former student and the student is fatally shot by Titus’s deputies. As Titus investigates the shootings, he unearths terrible crimes and a serial killer who has been hiding in plain sight, haunting the dirt lanes and woodland clearings of Charon.
With the killer’s possible connections to a local church and the town’s harrowing history weighing on him, Titus projects confidence about closing the case while concealing a painful secret from his own past. At the same time, he also has to contend with a far-right group that wants to hold a parade in celebration of the town’s Confederate history.
Charon is Titus’s home and his heart. But where faith and violence meet, there will be a reckoning.
Powerful and unforgettable, All the Sinners Bleed confirms S. A. Cosby as “one of the most muscular, distinctive, grab-you-by-both-ears voices in American crime fiction” (The Washington Post).

LOVED this!
This was one of the best mysteries I’ve had the pleasure of listening to. Most books of this genre written in the last 30 years or so have disappointed. So many things (racism and micro aggression) were explained brilliantly. The family dynamic was relatable as was the loss of the main characters mother. I especially enjoyed the southern accents and could easily differentiate between the 2 races.
You will not be disappointed.

Conflicted Crime/Police Novel Lover Appreciates this Read
I inherited a love of mystery novels from my mother, but as a social worker in community, I too often see how the police narrative portrayed in these novels fails to accurately uphold the experiences of marginalized peoples, of peoples who engage in behaviour that is criminalized, and people simply working to survive. Don’t call me a liberal, because I’m not, but that’s not the point here.
I still had a few critiques of the language or narrative here, but it was so refreshing to read a crime novel that satiated my mystery novel appetite, but which also did not shy away from considering issues of power are they continue to manifest in our unfair world. This was my first S. A. Cosby novel, and I will be reading another.

Fantastic
Writing was so good and so was the narrator. I read a LOT of mystery/thrillers and get so sick of the boring POVs and lame descriptors and phrasing - not with this book. Loved the main character and wish he could be in a series!
