Publisher's Summary

War has arrived to Zecia.

Zac returns from the Perennial Vastness, finding Earth already embroiled in war. The Kan'Tanu Cult pouring into the sector, determined to make it theirs. The System is fanning the flames with treasures and opportunities, using the conflict to choose candidates for its trial.

A strong arm and a sharp axe isn't enough to keep Earth safe. Zac has to secure the resources and alliances necessary for his empire, all while dealing with the fallout of Leandra's schemes.

But who can he trust? The appearance of the Ultom Courts has set the Multiverse astir. Powerful outsiders are flocking to Zecia in search of fortune, where the local Sealbearers are prey. One wrong move and it's over.

great story

story moves at decent pace and is set in a complex world . I do wish there were some more chapters on some of the secondary characters as the progress, but it's not a big issue.

Still Like It

I have found with Litrpg I get to a point where the plot just gets lost. This one is going strong and keeping my attention.

Another great addition, one small complaint

So I’ll start by saying, excellent book. I’m heavily invested in this series and will still be getting the next one. One small complaint that’s been a problem throughout all of the books in this series, fights that we have no real stake in last far too long to hold the attention of the listener or reader. The duel was a great fight that we were heavily invested in and was exciting throughout, but then the fight with the curse user and that whole battle felt too long as we didn’t really have any investment in the characters he was fighting. These sorts of fights are the only time I have to skip ahead in this series because they last far too long without truly advancing the story meaningfully. Excellent narration as always, looking forward to the next installment!

Usually a five star Author

JF is an incredibly talented author however over the last couple of books he is getting overly descriptive with many many little things (perhaps wordy would be a better descriptive?) which we are very much aware of. I do find myself zoning out and missing parts of the books and honestly I will say I am not really excited when the next book comes out like I used to be. I completely understand the story cant be all action with little substance which would completely ruin this series but JF had a fantastic balance in his early books, I would say it was the perfect balance of action/character development/world building but now its skewing heavily towards world development in a very tedious way with far to much repeated details. I will continue on for the next couple of books but if it doesn't balance out like the older books I will probably shelve this series and perhaps revisit at a later date. I will say JF is in my top three favorite authors and always will be. This latest book is very well written by the way, the quality is still just a superb as his early books but the balance is just not there for my taste. But this is just the opinion of a person who can certainly 'Not' write any thing of substance or quality haha so take it with a grain of salt as the saying goes.

Tired

More fighting. Tired of hearing about his small thoughts on getting stronger bla bla. It’s well written, it’s very well written. But after this many books I just don’t want to spend 10 min out of every 30 about things I’ve heard 70000x before. More fights, longer fights.

Good and bad. Too much non-action

The earlier Defiance of the Fall books had more action and adventure, compared to this one and some of the last ones which go way too much on core formation or other insignificant things which don't pull me into the story. I find myself having to do 2X or 2.5X through chapters which are tiresome. It gets to more action in the second half of the book, but it's almost as if I have to make leaps over the boring parts which seem more prevalent, definitely in this book, and some others. Please bring these books back to 80% action and not 25-30% action!

Good story but extremely slow

I live Zac's journey but the repetition makes it hard to stay interested I probably skipped 30% of this book.
