Hava sails across the sea toward Monsea with her sister, the royal entourage, and the world’s only copies of the formulas for the zilfium weapon she saved at the end of Winterkeep. Histoire
Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky. In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low. And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war. Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color.

There are those who would give their lives to keep it hidden. And those who would destroy it. But the only people who will truly find the Serpent are those who have awakened to the world around them—with eyes open to the wondrous, the terrible, and the just.

Histoire
Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high. Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered.

Description
Amelia Elizabeth Walden Book Award for Young Adult Fiction winner, 2010
New Hampshire Great Stone Face Children's Book Award nominee, 2010
New Jersey Garden State Teen Book Award nominee, 2012
She is the last of her kind...It is not a peaceful time in the Dells. In King City, the young King Nash is clinging to the throne, while rebel lords in the north and south build armies to unseat him. War is coming. And the mountains and forest are filled with spies and thieves. This is where Fire lives, a girl whose beauty is impossibly irresistible and who can control the minds of everyone around her.
Exquisitely romantic, this companion to the highly praised Graceling has an entirely new cast of characters, save for one person who plays a pivotal role in both books. You don't need to have read or heard Graceling to love Fire. But if you haven't, you'll be dying to listen to it next.
Ce que les critiques en disent
"Piercing and elegant." (The Horn Book, starred review)
"Fresh, hopeful, tragic and glorious." (Kirkus Reviews, starred review)
"Readers can enjoy this novel without having read Graceling. And enjoy it they will, with its vivid characters, convincing fantasy elements, gripping adventure scenes, and memorable love story." (Booklist, starred review)

Best of the Graceling Series.
Only book of the 4 Graceling Realm Books that truly moved me when reading as both a child/early youth and later as an adult. As a former violin player, Cashore’s emphasis on music and violin playing often was the source of many unwanted tears.
Again, ‘Fire’ was the only Graceling Realm books that had me feeling so much and crying even as an adult. I blame the violin sub plot.
Highly recommend. This book is a whole other league compared to the rest of the series. Preferred even over the ‘fired’ book of the series which is pretty interesting.
