You know who your competitors are. You keep tabs on them regularly, and can list them calmly, along with their strengths and weaknesses. But your enemies are a whole other matter. They’re the haters and the doubters who said you’d never make it, the ones who stomped on your dreams. When you think about your enemies, you get emotional. You feel like you won’t let anything—or anyone—stop you.

Story
Epictetus, a Greek stoic and freed slave, ran a thriving philosophy school in Nicropolis in the early second century AD. His animated discussions were celebrated for their rhetorical wizardry and were written down by Arrian, his most famous pupil. Together with the Enchiridion, a manual of his main ideas, and the fragments collected here, The Discourses argue that happiness lies in learning to perceive exactly what is in our power to change and what is not, and in embracing our fate to live in harmony with god and nature.

Story
Continuing where Thus Spoke Zarathustra left off, Nietzsche's controversial work Beyond Good and Evil is one of the most influential philosophical texts of the 19th century and one of the most controversial works of ideology ever written. Attacking the notion of morality as nothing more than institutionalised weakness, Nietzsche criticises past philosophers for their unquestioning acceptance of moral precepts. Nietzsche tried to formulate what he called "the philosophy of the future".

Story
From his perspective in Renaissance Italy, Machiavelli's aim in this classic work was to resolve conflict with the ruling prince, Lorenzo de Medici. Machiavelli based his insights on the way people really are rather than an ideal of how they should be. This is the world's most famous master plan for seizing and holding power. Astonishing in its candor The Prince even today remains a disturbingly realistic and prophetic work on what it takes to be a prince, a king, or a president.

Thus Spoke Zarathustra is one of the most extraordinary - and important - texts in Western philosophy. It was written by Friedrich Nietzsche between 1883 and 1885. He cast it in the form of a novel in the hope that his urgent message of the 'death of God' and the rise of the superman (Ubermensch) would have greater emotional as well as intellectual impact.

Wonderful narration. A good experience overall.
The writings themselves were eloquent and captivating, albeit a bit repetitive. Aurelius misses the mark on certain points, naturally, but it's worth a listen if you can allow it all to rest within its proper context.

I wish...
To be ruled by a person of this depth, insight, considerations, love, and appreciation of life would be the greatest honor.
How low have we fallen, and yet we consider ourselves to be advanced in every way. Our politicians act like they discovered the ultimate truth, and yet in their blissful ignorance divide us and corrupt the gullible and misguided.
How much would they learn if they bothered to read this. Never mind implement at least some of it. But instead they wallow in their own ignorance, dragging what makes us human closer and closer to animal. All as a premise of their way being the only way. And we fall for it!
How sad is it to say that ruler that lived almost two thousand years ago is as advanced compared, to our current ones, as we are compared to monkeys...
If only they could read this book and learn.

A book for our times
This book has made me see the value of seeing another side. As Marcus stated "Almost all is opinion". What is anger? Its purpose? Memento Mori its serves no purpose. Respect others, its ok to think and view the world in a different way then another. We are meant to work together like the bottom and top rows of teeth. Forgive and show mercy, especially to those who you know would not return the favor to you. If you treat people rudely they will act rudely but if you treat another with humanity and kindness they will act that way towards you as well. ( :

Love it but
I love the books content and the performance. I just personally think it would be better read than listened to. Many times throughout the book i would’ve liked to have read over a part again and “meditate” on it. Pun intended lol. That’s hard to do with an audiobook. Other than that though, good read!
