Ricki Wilde has many talents, but being a Wilde isn’t one of them. As the impulsive artistic daughter of a powerful Atlanta dynasty, she’s the opposite of her famous socialite sisters. Where they’re long-stemmed roses, she’s a dandelion: an adorable bloom that’s actually a weed, born to float wherever the wind blows. In her bones, Ricki knows that somewhere, a different, more exciting life awaits her. When regal nonagenarian Ms. Della invites her to rent the bottom floor of her Harlem brownstone, Ricki jumps at the chance for a fresh beginning.

Publisher's Summary
A REESE WITHERSPOON BOOK CLUB PICK!
“Tia Williams’ book is a smart, sexy testament to Black joy, to the well of strength from which women draw, and to tragic romances that mature into second chances. I absolutely loved it.” (Jodi Picoult, #1 NYT best-selling author of The Book of Two Ways and Small Great Things)
Seven days to fall in love, 15 years to forget, and seven days to get it all back again...
Eva Mercy is a single mom and bestselling erotica writer who is feeling pressed from all sides. Shane Hall is a reclusive, enigmatic, award‑winning novelist, who, to everyone's surprise, shows up in New York.
When Shane and Eva meet unexpectedly at a literary event, sparks fly, raising not only their buried traumas, but the eyebrows of the Black literati. What no one knows is that 15 years earlier, teenage Eva and Shane spent one crazy, torrid week madly in love. While they may be pretending not to know each other, they can't deny their chemistry - or the fact that they've been secretly writing to each other in their books through the years.
Over the next seven days, amidst a steamy Brooklyn summer, Eva and Shane reconnect - but Eva's wary of the man who broke her heart, and wants him out of the city so her life can return to normal. Before Shane disappears though, she needs a few questions answered...
With its keen observations of creative life in America today, as well as the joys and complications of being a mother and a daughter, Seven Days in June is a hilarious, romantic, and sexy‑as‑hell story of two writers discovering their second chance at love.
What the critics say
“If this cover doesn't raise your temperature a few degrees, the story will. Grab a fan before reading this one, because it really heats up.” (Good Housekeeping)
"I can always rely on Tia Williams for a novel with a delicious plot, compelling characters, and all of the pop cultural references my heart desires. Seven Days In June is nothing short of a good time. It's funny, thoughtful in both a real and thotty way, and its protagonist Eva Mercy may not know it, but she is my new favorite pretend writer." (Michael Arceneaux, New York Times best-selling author of I Can't Date Jesus and I Don't Want to Die Poor)
"Williams’ novel is a tour de force, capturing Eva’s experience as part of the Black literati in Brooklyn, her urge to hide generational trauma from her daughter while still celebrating their ancestors, and the ways in which fate brings people together. The structure of the novel is complex but ultimately rewarding and provides a portrait of a richly layered world. A hugely satisfying romance that is electrifying and alive." (Kirkus)

More than a romance
So much more than just a romance novel! A combination of modern lingo, real world issues, and accurate representation of minorities all mixed into a beautiful love story. This was a joy to listen to.

A pleasure to read/listen to
Beautiful prose, with colourful, and vivid imagery. Ms Williams paints us a window into a world very few of us actually get to see into. I felt what the characters felt, their indignations, and their triumphs, frustrations and moments of tenderness. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at the pretentiousness of a certain mansplaining character, and smile at the precocious nature of 12 year old Audrey. Don’t let me forget the chemistry between Eva and Shane! I had to stop what I was doing to close my eyes and fan myself! Honestly, with love scenes like that, the average man could almost never… stack up.., all in all, I found Ms Williams writing to be sublime! (I mean, she’s even inspired me to use words like sublime! Lol)
The narration was beautifully done. Characters were easy to distinguish, and the pace was modulated perfectly for each scene. Ms Lee took her time deliciously in all the right moments, and really connected with each character, making their personalities stand out so I felt as though I was there, having these conversations and in the minds of each person.
It’s a wonderful book, one that I plan on listening to again, and will be buying a hard copy to keep on my bookshelf at home as well.

Spicy summer read, second chance romance
Overall I really enjoyed this book. This is a great spicy summer read that many will enjoy. I am a fan of second chance romances and Tia Williams really plays with our emotions, as she does not easily hand over the “happily ever after” that we all wait so desperately for. This book is full of fresh ideas and an original plot. For me, the plot slowed down after Eva Mercy and Shane Hall reconnected. All that drama played with my emotions. I was dying to just get to the end. I still did enjoy seeing Eva and Shane work through their real life issues, and at the same time realize that they will always be drawn to one another.
Loves
- Love the references to black creole culture.
- I love Shane’s background. Love that both characters are so real with real life issues and trauma.
- Love that Eva and Shane write to each other in their books over the years.
- Love that when they meet again, Shane and Eva find new good vices together.
- Love the closeness between Eva and her daughter Audre.
- Love the steamy Dream House scene between Eva and Shane.
- Loved the references to popular culture.
