In 1857, a woman escaped enslavement on a North Carolina plantation and fled to a farm in New York. In hiding, she worked on a manuscript that would make her famous long after her death. The novel, The Bondwoman’s Narrative, was first published in 2002 to great acclaim, but the author’s identity remained unknown. Over a decade later, Professor Gregg Hecimovich unraveled the mystery of the author’s name and, in The Life and Times of Hannah Crafts, he finally tells her story.

In her late 20s, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realized that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happy - only keeping her from meeting her goals - she decided to set herself a challenge: she would not shop for an entire year. The Year of Less documents Cait's life for 12 months during which she bought only consumables.

What’s the most pressure you’ve ever been under? How did you react? What helped? What didn’t? Over the past five years, Dane Jensen has asked these questions of thousands of high performers - from Olympic gold medalists to Navy SEALs, politicians, executives, and busy parents. What has emerged from these conversations is that while everyone’s experiences under pressure are unique, pressure follows patterns and develops in predictable ways. This is the key to freedom
Once again Allen Carr has made my life better. I’ve tried unsuccessfully so many times to rid myself of my social media addiction, as it turns out all I needed was this book. Straightforward and simple, if you follow this book step by step, you can be free. I’m so grateful for finding this author and this book, it was all I needed all along.

force fit
it felt like this was the script for other Allen Carr books overlaid on to the issue of digital addiction. While i got some good insight into fighting addiction in general, the sentences in the book felt like they were straight out of an anti-smoking book but with some weird advice about digital addiction thrown in. (like deleting facebook friends and junk apps.) It was long, it was boring. I’ll give it some merit for the info about fighting addiction in general but this was a bad read. needs an overhaul to be more relevant to this specific issue
