Publisher's Summary
In a fantasy world where male/male lust fuels Night Magic, Prince Kenet lives a sheltered life. Isolated from the war that threatens the kingdom, he and his whipping boy Jorin are of age, but still sneak forbidden pleasures in their bed at night. When a dark mage tries to bespell Kenet into sexual submission, the prince and his boy are thrust into the world of intrigue, sex, and war. Volume one of The Prince's Boy collects chapters 1 through 56 of this wildly popular gay erotic web serial by Cecilia Tan. Begun on July 29, 2009, chapters were posted weekly, following the adventures of Prince Kenet and his whipping boy, Jorin. Drawing on complex themes of dominance and submission, the need for secrecy in a world where homosexuality is not accepted, and the intertwining of sex with magic, Tan weaves a complex, sex-filled adventure that is part Three Musketeers and part Claiming of Sleeping Beauty.

Comical not Erotic
I am not 100% certain who is listening to this book and getting anything from it beyond humor. It is such poor written erotica that certain points had my partner and I rolling in laughter, the sex scenes themselves often strangely worded and comical at times. Overall, if you want to be amused and have something to listen to, this is an alright choice. As far as erotic literature goes, however, we both felt this book falls exceptionally flat. It is often unfortunate in many cases that books featuring queer characters choose the "oh no sex with a same sex partner is sOoOoOoOo taboo~", the use of this trope was certainly a large feature, many times noting that "night magic" works well with said ~taboo~. It is a disappointing and rather annoying trope, and as a gay woman myself, would prefer to see fantasy worlds excluding this kind of behavior. Like, come on.
If you like your BDSM to be Safe, Sane, and Consentual you may have issues listening to this book. I don't mind some dubcon/noncon in the right kind of setting, but more often than not the dubcon scenes ended up leaving my partner and I feeling more uncomfortable than aroused.
The narrator was more often than not ridiculously theatrical, which further lead to the often comical nature of the book itself, dramatizing the voices in such a way didn't make the narration erotic.. More humorous.
***SPOILER***
After having listened to the entire first volume, my partner and I did eventually enjoy the D/s relationship between the military men and the prince, however there was such a brief moment where it was enjoyable that it didn't over-rule our other feelings regarding the book.
***SPOILER***
For both amusement and for the desire to complete what we've started, we will be listening to the second volume but unfortunately do not have the highest of hopes that it will be any better.
(And for the record, I could go without hearing the words "yes.. my prince~" said in the most creepy voice ever for the rest of my life)

While the performance was good, the story was terrible!!!!! Very poorly written and boring. I will not listen to any more works from this person
