Adrienne Ijioma, aka Jess Vaughn (Writes), was born in Detroit, Michigan in June 1970. The condensed facts of her life are that she was born the youngest of five children to an industrious, hardworking mom and a aspiring fashion model dad in the heydey of Detroit's history. She recalls a thriving city with lots of downtown shopping including department stores and specialty shops, fun amusements for the kids with the city's well-known international festivals at Hart Plaza, the local arcades and thrilling Boblo Island. She grew up in the great time of Motown fame. These memories lend much background for current & future poetry and stories. She credits her love of creative writing to her primary education and introduction to many notable writers through lessons and encouragement by her Detroit public school teachers, Ms. Shirley Williams, Ms. Phillips, Carrie Strode, Ms. D'Angelo and Joyce Holley. She strongly and fondly remembers becoming acquainted with the works of Edgar Allen Poe, Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison as well as Judith Krantz, Judy Blume, George Orwell, Ernest Hemingway, Alfred Hitchcock and others. Adrienne recalls her first notable interest in creative writing at 8 years old when her 3rd grade teacher (Ms. Phillips) retrieved a poem she wrote from the trash and entered her into a regional poetry contest, which she won. From there, she had rarely a memory that did not include a poetic record for reference. "Although born in Michigan and rooted in Italy, I have called North Carolina home for over a decade. I write fiction under the pseudonym, Jess Vaughn, and save reality for my rising fashion designer husband, Michael Iji, and our two children. We are a very social and creative family. Since we are both without any local family, our dinner table is routinely surrounded by close and new friends. It is a time when I can hone my storytelling skills to captive audiences! We like to do group singing, art & painting projects as well as reading, cooking and baking together. I read all of the children’s stories to the kids throughout my writing process, giving them prominent input in the direction of the storylines. In my new adventure story, Back to the Land of the Stinky Feet, the main character, Smelly Shelly, comes from a utopian-type village called Stinkafitte. The ambience is not unlike ours, a town built on family, community, safety and fun. My children are thriving here and being able to watch them grow and learn inspires me to write stories of value for young ones. I listen to them pray sincerely for the opportunity for me to work from home and be able to spend more time with them. Knowing the importance of my role in their formation challenges me to make every moment with them count. It also drives me to create more opportunities, as I work for the sustainability of my writing career." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Adrienne Ijioma is a creative writer of fiction, flash fiction, poetry, children's storybooks, greeting cards, and has utilized her skills professionally for more than 25 years in corporate settings.
