ALAN BISSETT is a novelist, playwright and performer who was born and raised in Falkirk, Scotland. His novels include Boyracers, The Incredible Adam Spark, Death of a Ladies’ Man and Pack Men. His most well-known works for the stage include his award-winning trilogy of plays The Moira Monologues, about ‘Falkirk’s hardest woman’, and his debut play, The Ching Room. He has also written for television and radio, as well as presenting the BBC documentary, Inside the Mind of Robert Burns. His most recent work is the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book for adults, Lazy Susan, and he is currently working on his fifth novel, The Spooky Wife. His first non-fiction book, Lads: A Guide to Consent and Respect, a guide for teenage boys about relationships, was published in August 2023.
He has won a Fringe First (2017) and Glenfiddich Scottish Writer of the Year (2011), as well as being shortlisted for numerous awards, including Best New Play at the Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland (2010 and 2017), Best New Fiction at the Scottish Arts Council Awards (2010 and 2012) and Scots Language Writer of the Year (2021 and 2023).
In 2016 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Stirling for his Outstanding Contribution to Scottish Culture.
He now lives in a village in Renfrewshire with his wife and two sons.
