I'm a veteran NYC crime reporter who was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize twice for investigative work published during my 11 years at the New York Post. Also wrote for Agency France Presse, some magazines and other newspapers over the years. For two years, I produced investigative news segments fro CBS after I was hired at the behest of Dan Rather. I've also been featured on Biography, A & E and other programs, mostly to speak about organized crime or high-profile cases. My first book could've easily been about celebrities, the Mafia or international terrorism. I've been fortunate to break hundreds of exclusive stories. Mob boss John Gotti contracting cancer, for example. Or the time I exposed the locations of NYC's secret red light cameras. Or the post 9/11 story that forced New York City to protect its water supply against a terrorist attack. Or the time I bought a lion from an Ohio menagerie and helped get a federal law enacted that limited the interstate transportation of exotic animals (long before Tiger King). Maybe I'll get to those books. Instead, I chose a topic always central to my mind and heart: the Author of Life, the ultimate source. In this book, I attempted something difficult: to convey in words what is beyond description. Some say I came as close as humanly possible. Judges for the National Indie Excellence Awards and the International Book Awards recognized Beyond the Sphere: Encounters with the Divine as an outstanding book on spirituality. Hope you find something of value when you read it. Update: Two reviewers noted biographical material in the book. It was necessary to include material pertaining to the impact Divine visitation had on my life and to explore why the encounters may have occurred to myself and to others, such as Moses, Jesus, Buddha, Mohammad and Krishnamurti. It was impossible to ignore the question of why visitations happen to some people - and not others. In exploring this question, a pattern emerged in the lives of these spiritual mentors. It was also necessary to answer the question of what impact the visitations I described had on my life. For these reasons, the book had to be partly a spiritual memoir - but not a biography in the traditional sense. That said, the book contains substantial discussion on Divine visitation, philosophical arguments for and against the existence of God, analysis of widely held religious beliefs formed after visitations and section on deepening mindfulness and meditation. One portion is based on interactions with Neale Donald Walsch, author of the Conversation with God series.
