Hi! I am Alyssa Hughes, owner of Barefoot Baby! During the day I am an entrepreneur- owner and artist at Barefoot Baby, a clothing brand that highlights the wonders of an outdoor childhood. Together with my husband and family, I draw inspiration from my nature loving kids and our homestead to design clothing, hats, and BOOKS for barefoot adventurers. After a year of creating artwork for our clothing, I realized my love of reading allowed for a natural transition to author and illustrator. After writing "Just Red" in 2021, I knew this would be a life long endeavor. Gift notebooks, "The Easter Chicken" and workbooks shortly followed. At home you will catch me raising my two daughters and son on our little homestead, which include our dog Macy, cat Murphy, pot bellied pigs Marley and Burp, eight ducks, a bunch of chickens and roosters, and a rabbit. I love spending time in the garden, greenhouse, and among our many fruit trees. When I am not home you will find me in the Blue Ridge or Smokey Mountains, where my heart feels most at home. Basically, I am living where my characters are. There is no other place I would rather be. I hope you, and your (barefoot) little ones, enjoy my stories.
