Amelia Starlight is a degree-qualified professional with a focus on the psychological aspects in behavior with children and youth. In addition, she holds qualifications in education and natural therapies with considerable experience around the world in Indigenous, Eastern, and Western cultures, giving her in-depth insight into the challenges that children face and how essential it is to come from a loving, supportive family environment that fosters a child’s spiritual and psychological growth. The author was able to observe and participate in different techniques that really work and are holistic in nature. In turn, she offers parents tools and options to guide their challenged children toward becoming loving, caring, and healthy individuals as they grow into beautiful, independent adults. Each country and culture has subtly different approaches to manage ongoing, real-life scenarios involving special needs. However, cultures that embrace spirituality as part of the normal human experience seem to be able to raise their children in a more healthy, well-adjusted manner. Amelia offers many different options that can be explored so parents can educate themselves to support and encourage their child’s psychological and spiritual growth. All too often in Western cultures, we devalue the importance of our spirituality, the importance of the body-mind-spirit connection (the whole person), and consequently the manner in how we deal with challenged children, which can lead to ongoing confusion, major mental health issues, and dependency on traditional medicine and prescription drugs. The author believes that a natural and holistic approach is always best, and that there are many strategies that Indigenous and Eastern cultures have embraced that can truly help our children. We all have complex body, mind, and spiritual connections that are required to operate optimally, and sometimes we need to think outside the box. In a way, the adage “If you can’t beat them, join them” is the best approach to raising our understanding and awareness of what children with special needs experience. Obviously, there are some extreme cases where medications are required, and these need to be discussed and managed under the supervision of your team of health professionals. The author’s books cater to parents of children and youth who are not at the extreme end of the spectrum which requires medical intervention. These strategies have been lovingly developed to assist parents to deepen their bonds with their children and to feel more at peace in out-of-control or chaotic situations. Amelia hopes that this instruction will open up more enlightened strategies for raising your precious special children alongside the rest of the family. Remember, as parents, you have been chosen for a very special role in guiding and shaping a unique and gifted person. With your compassionate guidance, you can help them to achieve everything they need to make their world brighter.
