I graduated from Weber State University in 1980 with a degree in English and immediately stepped into my career of stay-at-home mother. In the midst of raising four children, I read and I wrote. When I was 27 and expecting my fourth child, I wrote my first book, How to Feel Great about Being a Mother. In an era when women were being told they could be so much more than a mother, I wanted to be a voice that said, “Motherhood is an amazing, fulfilling, demanding, and legitimate career.” Over the years, I directed my passion for learning to Biblical studies. I wanted to know everything I could about the language, culture, politics, geography, symbolism, and literary devices of the Bible. The offshoots of this love were teaching institute for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and files full of fascinating details that eventually became Understanding the Symbols, Covenants and Ordinances of the Temple, published in 2016. In 2020, Alan D. Thompson from Perth, Australia approached my husband, Steve Hardison, about writing a book about him. Steve wasn’t interested, but Alan persisted, and Steve agreed. Alan conducted over a hundred interviews with people who know Steve. He sorted through a mountain of emails and Facebook posts and boxes of memorability that Steve shipped to Australia. With my background in writing and my inside track on the life of Steve Hardison, it eventually made sense for Alan to hand off the materials he had meticulously organized to me to write the book. My offerings as an author are eclectic, but they represent the things that matter most to me: my husband, my children, my faith, and my passion for learning.
