Anthony George is a professional contemporary guitarist, author and teacher based in the UK and is the director and course writer for the online learning platform Cutting Edge Guitar.
Anthony graduated from London's prestigious Guitar Institute, part of The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) in 2009. During his time there, he was taught by guitarists such as Martin Goulding - Head of the Jamtrack Central online guitar degree and one of the UK's foremost modern rock specialists. Charlie Griffiths - Lead guitarist for prog-rock outfit Haken, who has written material for the Rockschool (RSL) grade syllabus and guitar techniques magazine. Dario Cortese - Session ace and virtuoso in all styles and has played with acts as diverse as Melanie C, Brent Mason, Larry Carlton and Brett Garsed. Gianluca Corona - Top Jazz and blues guitarist who was personally recommended to the guitar institute by jazz giant Al Di Meola and Jay Stapley - Another top session musician who has played with Roger Waters and the late Michael Kamen. Anthony's recordings of Get you back by Shawn Lane and Altitudes by Jason Becker were recorded at Jay's studio in London. After this session, Anthony was honoured to perform on one of Jay's gigs at the world-famous Bulls Head in Barnes, one of the first and most important jazz venues in Britain, known as the "suburban Ronnie Scott's". To be invited to play in such a prestigious venue by one of his teachers at the best guitar college in the UK was the first of many highlights in Anthony's playing career.
After the gig at The Bull, session work has included pit performances for pantomimes and musical shows, function band work in the corporate scene and jazz fusion gigs with his guitar duo Elektrik Jazz. Since 2012, Anthony has been Director of Cutting Edge Guitar, which initially started as a peripatetic guitar service providing expert one to one tuition for grades, GCSE, A level music, and rock and pop workshops at college and university level.
After many successful years of writing guitar lessons for his students, Anthony was encouraged by his pupils to publish his material so that guitarists around the world could benefit from his unique approach. In 2015 Anthony released his first instructional guitar book, High Intensity Guitar Technique 1: The Foundations of Proper Guitar Technique, which has been well received on Amazon. Book one's popularity has lead to the publication of two sequels, the 2019 title High Intensity Guitar Technique 2: Professional Techniques and the recently released High Intensity Guitar Technique Book 3: Virtuoso Techniques. All three books are available in print and digital download sold separately or in one complete volume. The series represents a real encyclopaedia of modern guitar technique.
