ON WRITING: As I began my full-time writing career in 2016, I found I really enjoyed composing dialogue. Finding the expressive words that move the storyline; punctuated with the nods, shifts and exchanges that feel natural; establishing a character's voice to complement their actions; and placing the reader into the conversation. This was a bit of a revelation as I was previously under the impression that dialogue slowed engagement and readers preferred scenes that were loaded with action and physical encounters. I owe David Baldacci's novel "The Last Mile" for this shift. I also found Musical lyrics entered my prose. Scenes, descriptions of action and dialogue often include song lyrics. These are fun and just appear in my stream of consciousness while writing. This love of dialogue and song lyrics appear in many "Camp David Conspiracy" scenes, and throughout "How Mrs. God and I Created the Universe." MY INFLUENCERS: For years I traveled extensively by air and always had a book: Tom Clancy intrigued me with his ability to pull together seemingly unrelated events into a riveting conclusion; Michael Crichton's ability to construct a compelling storyline that is actually a commentary on some other scientific concern; and Ken Follett's development of contrasting characters to better build the traits of each individual character. And I can't forget the huge number of biographies I have devoured, each providing insights into human character, action and invention. My favorite biographers are Walter Isaacson (Steve Jobs), Robert Caro (LBJ series), Jon Meacham (Thomas Jefferson), Doris Kearns Goodwin (Lincoln) and Joseph Ellis (American Creation). You will feel the presence of each of these authors in my character development and storylines. ABOUT ME: Prior to writing full-time, my "day job" was in New Product Development for the Food Industry. I was fortunate to work with a broad array of terrific clients and invitations to speak at numerous food conferences. I hold two U.S. Patents and co-edited the trade book "An Integrated Approach to New Food Product Development." I use the same extensive research skills in my story development as I employed in my food development. After all, they are both "new products." I live in Missouri with my wife of 40+ years, have two adult daughters and three grandsons. I play tennis, love bourbon, build furniture, ride a bike, and look forward to raking mountains of leaves every Fall. In addition, I have found a cadre of fellow writers in The Springfield Writers Guild.
