For over twenty years, Barbara Nelson Blinn suffered through an abusive marriage to a violent alcoholic. Caring for a quadriplegic son and young daughter, Blinn felt she had no escape. But her husband could not stop her from escaping into her writing. She poured her heart out on paper for many years, but could never afford to bring her work to mass publication, even though she won nearly two hundred awards for her writing in fifteen states. Blinn's daughter, Dr. Carol Ann Blinn White, did not want her mother's legacy to be lost and hoped her words might be an encouragement to others. White has now begun to bring her mother's written words to the world. White spent nearly three years in a labor of love organizing and editing her mother's work, then developed it into a publishable format. In all, there are thirteen books that will eventually be released. White also wrote a book based on her mother's life, which will be released in late 2022. Barbara was a determined woman whom many underestimated. She was smart and kind, but also suffered from rejection and scorn because of her living situation and handicapped son.
