He wove unforgettable tales of a former life to his family in America. I learned to speak the languages of my German family, and later, the signs of the deaf children I worked with. Everywhere, there are stories. Even in Darkness is historical fiction based on true events in the first half of the 20th century in Germany. I am drawn to stories of the unlikely, the unexpected and the resilient. Hard Cider, contemporary women's fiction, carries on with the theme of a strong multidimensional woman who must overcome the unexpected with dignity and self-determination. Even in Darkness is the 2015 winner of Story Circle Network's Sarton Literary Award for Historical Fiction, 2016 Independent Publishers Book Award Gold medal for best European fiction, Gold medal winner at Foreword Reviews' 2016 INDIEFAB Book of the Year Award for Literary fiction, and bronze medal winner for Historical Fiction. Reading, fiber art, cycling, swimming and time on the Great Lakes are favorite activities when I'm not writing.
