She originally set out to write her daughter a playbook that would help guide her path as she encountered the most sinister side of the corporate world, information that no one else would tell her about bad bosses, targeting, and gas lighting - tactics low performers at higher levels use to take talented individuals off their upward trajectory. Her daughter was a product of the anti-bully generation, and she feared these workplace tactics would not only take her off a successful trajectory, but she would encounter more toxicity than the 1,000+ high-performing individuals she had mentored over the years. How could she prepare her daughter, and all of her talented friends, from the inevitable combativeness, targeting and bullying that would await them in today's workplaces? What she discovered through the writing and research process was alarming and all too pervasive in today's workplaces. What she found not only affected women, but high performers of all genders and people of color. She uncovered three invisible barriers that are the largest impediments to achieving widespread high performance in the workplace - a discovery that could not only help her daughter's generation, but all generations. Knowing this newfound information could help progress true diversity in the workplace, they wanted to share this gift with others, and Winning the Talent Shift was born. Berta is a self-described inspired pragmatist who envisions a workplace full of good people who want to accomplish amazing things together.
