Charlotte 'Betty' Webb, served at the Government Code and Cypher School's (GC&CS) codebreaking operation at Bletchley Park between 1941 and 1945, then flew in a flying boat to the US to work at the Pentagon, Washington DC until the end of war with Japan. The experience was a stark contrast to her upbringing in rural Richard's Castle, Herefordshire. Betty first wrote about her life in her memoir 'Secret Postings' in 2011. A new version of her memoir titled 'No More Secrets: My part in codebreaking at Bletchley Park and the Pentagon' published by Mardle books on 4 May 2023 includes extended and new details about her work in The Mansion, her social life and her colleagues and friends at Bletchley Park. Betty was awarded an MBE for her work to promote the story of Bletchley Park and the Légion d’honneur for her work during the war. She is 100 years of age in May 2023 and is still giving talks about her part of the code-breaking operations at Bletchley Park and the Pentagon during the Second World War.
