I am a youth sports professional with over 30 years of experience in athletics. I’ve served as a youth sports business owner, College Assistant Athletics Director, Adjunct Professor, Deputy Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, Physical Education/Health Teacher and Basketball Coach at the youth, high school and college levels. You name it, outside of professional sports, and I’ve likely done it. I grew up 20 miles from New York City, in a small town called Elmsford, NY. Growing up in the shadows of New York City was an exciting experience. I enjoyed taking in all the sights and activities New York offers and watching all of our pro and college sports teams live and in person! Thankfully, when not partaking in all of these activities, I could retreat back to Elmsford to get away from the busyness the city offered. Elmsford, has and had very successful school sports teams and programs. My older siblings were also very involved and successful at playing, cheering, refereeing, coaching and organizing various sports programs in town. This rubbed off on me as I not only played a variety of sports growing up, I followed their lead and organized activities as well. The positive influence of sports, particularly Basketball, and the hard work I invested in the classroom provided me with the opportunity to play intercollegiate basketball at the Division one and two levels. My first two years of College were at Wichita State in Kansas and I spent my final three years at Wingate College (now University) in North Carolina, in the late 1980s and early 90s. Thankfully, I attained a Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration from Wingate, a Master’s degree in Teaching from Iona College and a second Master’s degree in Physical Education, Health and Sports Pedagogy from Manhattanville College in New York in 2011. What do I like to do? I love to exercise, listen to music and to read uplifting books along with health, wellness and nutrition articles. I don't watch much television, but definitely tune in to watch the playoffs and championships of each NBA and College Basketball, College Football, and Major League Baseball season. I’ve discovered that I like to express myself by writing about life lessons I've learned and living with gratitude in this frenetic world. When I have the opportunity, I enjoy talking one-on-one with youth or sports teams about dreaming big to advance toward their goals. Gratefully, I can do this at my full-time job as an Athletic Director or when I have the opportunity elsewhere.  The thing I like to do most is hang out with my wife and raise my three energetic sons! They can be a challenge sometimes, but they are also a fun bunch!     Have a Grateful Day!  Brent Website: https://bassketballlessons.com "We are confined ONLY by the walls we build ourselves."  Andrew Murphy
