A lawyer and consultant to law firms on strategic and economic issues, Bruce is President of Adam Smith, Esq. (AdamSmithEsq.com), an industry-leading management consultancy to law firms and the legal industry. Based in New York, the firm operates globally, with clients in the US and Canada, the UK, Continental and Eastern Europe, Latin America, Asia/Pacific, and offshore locations. Adam Smith, Esq. also created and owns one of the most highly respected online publications in the legal industry, providing insights on the business, strategic, and economic issues facing law firms.  The site has a worldwide readership, with nearly 2,000 articles on strategy, leadership, globalization, M&A, finance, compensation, cultural considerations, and partnership structures, comprising an unparalleled resource for the industry. The site has been called "a searchlight of intelligence," "the gold standard in the industry," and "razor sharp." In late 2012 Bruce published the book "Growth Is Dead: Now What?," outlining the consequences for the legal industry of the great financial reset of 2008, which Bloomberg Law immediately called "must-reading, from the one and only Bruce MacEwen." His second book, "A New Taxonomy: The seven law firm business models" was released in early summer 2014 and has been praised by managing partners of AmLaw 50 and Magic Circle firms, with phrases including "My test of a good business book is simple: does it provide context that clarifies your thinking? Bruce has written for or been quoted in: The New York Times; The Wall Street Journal; Fortune, Bloomberg; The American Lawyer, Oxford University Press's "Insights for the Thinking World," and other publications too numerous to mention. He is a sought-after speaker and frequently appears at law firm retreats and legal industry conferences around the world. Previously, Bruce: Practiced securities law in-house for nearly ten years at Morgan Stanley/Dean Witter; and Practiced litigation and corporate law with Shea & Gould and with Breed, Abbott & Morgan in New York. Bruce was educated at Princeton University (BA magna cum laude in economics) and at Stanford Law School (JD). A native Manhattanite, he lives on New York's Upper West Side with his wife and their dog, where he Chairs the Finance Committee and served many years on the Vestry of St. Michael's Episcopal Church.
