My name is C. J. Cannatelli (Cayden James Cannatelli). I was born in Meriden, Connecticut in 1994. I have no siblings. I began showing a strong interest in horror at the age of three, refusing to go to bed one night and sneaking downstairs to catch a glimpse of The X-Files on my mother’s television in the living room. After being promptly sent back to bed, I did not sleep. All I could think about was the amazing creatures I had seen that night for just the briefest of moments on the screen. A few months passed and my mother purchased a computer for me, filled to the brim with typing programs. My mother, a legal secretary by trade and the editor of The Steiner House saga, saw a bright future for anyone who could learn to type at a young age. By age four, I was typing at incredible speeds and found my passion in writing. I remember struggling to come up with ideas as to what type of writer I wanted to be. I wrote dozens of poems until it all came to a head one fateful afternoon. As I sat on the couch, writing story ideas in my notebook, my cousin was watching a kid’s station on TV. I will always remember this moment with a clarity unlike any other childhood memory. Looking up for a moment, my eyes fell on the television that depicted a man walking onto a set filled with spooky masks. He opened his mouth to speak. “Hello. I’m R. L. Stine. I write the Goosebumps books.” I had long been addicted to Goosebumps, but I had never seen the author before. A simple thought in that moment changed my life forever. I want to be him. Throughout my school years, I was relentlessly bullied, but found great comfort in coming home and writing my latest horror stories. It was at age twelve in the year 2006 that I sat at my computer, writing up the latest idea for what was originally supposed to be a novella. Little did I know, this outline would morph, grow, change and develop over the span of twelve years, creating the saga you are reading today. I began my college career at Middlesex Community College in Connecticut as a computer science major. However, on my very first day, I walked out after the first ten minutes of class, sat outside and lit a cigarette. I’m lying to myself, I thought. This isn’t who I am. Who the hell am I? After a long period of thinking, I had made the decision I wanted to help people while continuing my passion of writing horror. While the school had no program for psychology, I signed up as a criminal justice major, simply planning to change the major to psychology when I transferred to Southern Connecticut State University in 2014. Upon graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and minor in Sociology in 2016, I graduated cum laude and was even inducted into the International Psychological Honor Society known as Psi Chi. I currently reside in Wallingford, Connecticut and continue to write horror while doing an occasional fundraiser for charity.
