Carol Gordon Ekster's first published children's book, Where Am I Sleeping Tonight?-A Story of Divorce, Boulden Publishing, 2008, was inspired by one special former 4th grade student who lived the schedule described in the book. The book was a finalist for About.com's Readers'Choice Awards for Best Children's Book for Single Parent Families, 2012. After 12 years it went out of print, but Mazo Publishers brought it back to life in 2021 with a new title: Where Am I Sleeping Tonight?: Kids Coming To Terms With Divorce. Another of her stories was in Library Sparks magazine, February 2010. And her picture book, Ruth the Sleuth and the Messy Room, on the debut list of Character Publishing, December 2011, received the Children's Literary Classics Seal of Approval in July 2013. This title has been reprinted with Mazo Publishers 2018. It was a finalist for the ACP Excellence in Publishing Awards 2016 and a third place winner in the Catholic Press Association awards in the children's book category, 2016. And her picture book, You Know What?, came out first in Dutch (Mama, Wist je dat?), December 2016 with Clavis Books, with the English edition following in 2017, the Korean language edition in 2019. It was a CLEL Bell Picture Book Awards Nominee for Talk (2018) and an SCBWI Crystal Kite Award finalist 2018 in the New England region.
