Carol grew up in the UK and Jamaica. She went to Wolmer’s Girls’ school in Kingston before going on to the Jamaica School of Drama (now the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts). Her screenplay, House of Usher, was one of six short films made by Crucial Productions for the BBC. She was the principle scriptwriter for two series of Comin’ Atcha, starring pop group, Cleopatra for ITV. Carol has also worked with Red Productions and was commissioned to write a series based on House of Usher. Her monologue, Horns of a Dilemma, was broadcast on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. She was also one of the BAFTA nominated team of adapters of Jacqueline Wilson’s Story of Tracy Beaker. She has projects, including historical drama Pablo Fanque, in development with Story Punk, and a couple of projects she can’t talk about yet with other production companies. Carol wrote one of the multi-award winning drama series, SOON GONE: A WINDRUSH CHRONICLE, celebrating the 70th anniversary of The Windrush broadcast on BBC4 in 2019, which was nominated for a BAFTA in 2020. Her two episodes of the 9th Series of Danny Brocklehurst’s Stone for BBC Radio 4, was broadcast in Feb 2021 and her short film, Zipporah’s Blues will be shot in Jamaica later this year. Carol is the founder of Fresh Voices UK, which she set up in 2011 to raise the profile and amplify the work of writers of African, Asian and East Asian descent and others of ethnically diverse heritage. Many writers who’ve worked with Fresh Voices UK are now writing on award winning primetime drama series both here and in LA. Carol is also a recipient of the Stephen Lawrence Woman of the Year.
