Cassandra Grey has authored a number of nonfiction books; "Shattered Defense" is her debut novel. Her first brush with a real-life criminal came when she took a criminology class in college--a requirement for journalism majors, who might later be assigned the police beat. Class members learned how to rob banks, crack a safe, and hijack an airplane. And what do you know? One of the class members--Richard Floyd McCoy--did exactly that: hijacked an airplane, ala D. B. Cooper style, parachuting out over Utah with his haul. When he was tried, Cassandra was assigned to cover his trial for the college newspaper. Meeting your friend in the elevator at the courthouse when one of you is in an orange jumpsuit and manacles? Awkward. But that's nothing compared to her later exploits. During her first post-college job, Cassandra and her roommate used to give Ted Bundy rides to church. That's right. THAT Ted Bundy. They both thought he was cute. And, happily, they both lived to tell the story. Finding out he was a serial killer who had been killing women during the time they had been shuttling him to church? Takes awkward to a whole new level. Cassandra has more than forty years of professional experience in corporate and internal communications, public relations, media relations, marketing communications, and publications management and has held communications management positions at a variety of national and international corporations. (A series of criminal-free environments, to her knowledge.) She wrote an award-winning book-length poetry manuscript recognized by the governor of Utah. A former member of Sigma Delta Chi, she was named an Outstanding Young Woman of America. Her interests include reading, writing, cooking, traveling, and doing family history. She has met five presidents of the United States, sailed up the Nile River, prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, eaten tempura in Tokyo, and received a dozen long-stemmed red roses from a stranger on the street in Athens. In her blended family, she is the mother of nine and the grandmother of six.
