D Grant Smith – The Storysmith Behind Transformation and Connection D Grant Smith believes every person holds a unique superpower waiting to be discovered. Through his writing, speaking, and teachings, he helps people uncover these hidden gifts while recognizing the profound love and divine presence within. A lifelong storyteller, Smith’s work blends soulful inspiration with captivating narratives, empowering readers to embark on their own journeys of self-discovery and transformation. His unconventional path to writing began in the realms of radio broadcasting, where he spent 22 years exploring the stories beneath the surface of remarkable individuals. As the creator and host of The Appetizer Radio Show, Smith turned an indie music passion project into an internationally syndicated program, earning Radio Ink’s “Rising Stars of Radio” award in 2012. Over the years, he honed his interviewing craft under the guidance of David Candow, the legendary trainer behind NPR’s most celebrated hosts. This mentorship helped Smith uncover what he calls "the story beneath the story"—a deeper understanding of the passions and purpose driving influential figures. Smith has had the privilege of interviewing a wide array of luminaries, including Seth Godin, Michael Hyatt, Diamond Dallas Page, Kevin Kelly, Liza Mucheru Wisner, Juan Williams, Van Cliburn International Piano Competition finalists, and countless others. These conversations enriched his understanding of storytelling and human connection, fueling his passion for crafting narratives that inspire and transform. In 2015, Smith released his first book, The DIY Musician’s Radio Handbook, to guide independent musicians in building meaningful relationships with media and audiences. This practical and empowering resource distills his years of radio and relationship-building expertise into actionable strategies for creators of all kinds. His second book, Be Solid: How to Go Through Hell and Come Out Whole (2019), is a raw and transformative account of overcoming heartbreak and personal struggles. Blending life lessons from the boxing gym with spiritual practices, Smith illustrates how to rewrite the story you tell yourself and emerge stronger from life’s challenges. Smith's writing often explores themes of self-love, growth, and the divine within. A self-proclaimed superhero movie nerd and lifelong fan of the Rocky series, Smith draws inspiration from storytelling legends like Stan Lee, Neil Gaiman, and Frank Miller, as well as the creative tenacity of Sylvester Stallone. Combining the grit of comic book heroes with the spiritual insights of teachers like Neville Goddard and Paolo Coelho, Smith’s work bridges the worlds of action, imagination, and heart-centered growth. Through his Growth Farming platform, Smith brings his short stories, mini-novels, and transformative teachings together. His work invites readers to nurture their inner gardens with love, cultivating a harvest of joy, purpose, and connection. When he's not writing, Smith channels his love for storytelling into live performances inspired by 1930s radio dramas, delighting audiences with his dynamic character portrayals. A self-proclaimed superhero and Rocky movie nerd, he passionately believes in the power of stories to change lives and unlock hidden potential.
