Welcome to the world of D.M. Sorlie, where historical fiction breathes life into the dramatic era of World War II and its aftermath. Through the Sue Lee Mystery series and the Sebastian books, readers are transported into intrigue, espionage, and personal discovery. Our travels inspired a story that began in Honolulu, Hawaii, where a chance discovery of vintage newspapers in an antique store sparked what would become the Sue Lee Mystery series. A pre-war article about the Army’s urgent search for Japanese language experts in San Francisco revealed a critical vulnerability in American military intelligence, providing the seed for my first narrative, “Time Of Deception.” The iconic Royal Hawaiian Hotel—the “Pink Palace of the Pacific”—serves as a magnificent backdrop for the Sue Lee series. This setting naturally developed into the launching point for Sebastian’s first adventure in “Veiled Mission,” which begins aboard the China Clipper bound for Hawaii and the South Pacific. With its timeless charm, Paris inspired many of my books, including my second Sebastian book. After we rented an apartment near the River Seine.  The bouquinistes—the historic green bookstalls lining the riverbank—captivated me. I researched the city’s World War Two occupation and resistance movement, which unveiled stories of extraordinary courage that demanded to be told. I weaved the stories into the Sue Lee Mysteries and the Sebastian books. Both series intertwine the complexities of war, espionage, and the relentless pursuit of truth against a world in turmoil, from the shores of Hawaii to the island of New Zealand and Australia’s declaration of war before the occupation of Paris.  I invite you to join my unforgettable characters. Exploring these narratives of the human spirit’s resilience during one of history’s most challenging periods, navigate through danger, deception, and destiny.  Each book promises a thrilling journey through meticulously researched historical events, where the past comes alive, and secrets wait to be uncovered.
