Danie Botha’s books combine 20th-century (modern) historical fiction with a generous helping of action and adventure. His first mini-series (Be Silent - 2016) brings homage to the complex nature of the emancipation of the Southern African region and its peoples, following centuries of colonialization, ethnic conflict, and political turmoil. Book one of his second mini-series (An Unfamiliar Kindness - 2018), also modern historical fiction, uses the Second Wave Feminism movement and the Troubles of Northern Ireland during the 1970s, as a backdrop. Danie Botha also writes contemporary fiction (Maxime - 2017), creative nonfiction, short stories, and poetry. He blogs and writes at https://daniebotha.com about storytelling, writing as healing, closer reading, and the writer's life. His novel, An Unfamiliar Kindness, (2018) uses The Troubles and the Women's Liberation Movement of the 1970s as a backdrop, asking the unanswerable question, 'How much does love cost?" In late 2019, his first collection of poetry, Two Bowls of Joy, saw the light. Danie Botha was born in Zambia and completed his school education and medical and training in South Africa. It’s a true story that they could watch the hyenas from their boarding school hostel windows at night while in Zambia. He later qualified as an Anesthesiologist and takes great interest in preoperative optimization. He is a fitness nut and promotes positive aging. He cycles and learned in 2017 to land-paddle. He gyms and cross-country skis. He draws, paints, and dabbles with a camera from time to time. He's a compulsive reader and has called Canada home for the past 21 years.
