Dave Patriarche founded Mainstay Insurance Brokerage in 1996 as a one-person shop specializing in providing employee. benefits to small businesses in the Greater Toronto Area. Dave is a strong believer in continuing education and recognized the need for the group insurance industry to broaden its efforts in this area. In 2003, he started a small networking group that evolved into regular breakfast meetings across the GTA, then into the Canadian Group Insurance Brokers, an organization dedicated to supporting networking and continuing education for the benefits industry. Dave is recognized as a leader in the group benefits industry and is a contributor to various industry publications. He mentors and acts as an informal resource to other benefit brokers, especially those new to the benefits field. He participates in industry think tanks, groups, and panels and is a member of the Sanofi Canada Healthcare Survey advisory board. Dave lives in Markham, Ontario with his wife, Joanne. They have two sons, Matthew and Mitchell. Dave’s unique increasing vacation formula means that he typically takes over thirteen weeks of vacation a year in an effort to maintain his life balance. He does this by taking his clients, friends, associates, or almost anyone sailing on Lake Ontario or, on occasion, on the Caribbean and Mediterranean seas. Sailing is where he is most comfortable and it is these experiences that add to his storytelling. His Heavy Weather Passage, sailing from Nova Scotia to St. Martin, and Atlantic Crossing from Africa to the Caribbean have provided him with a bounty of stories that he weaves into client interactions and into his many inspiring and educational speaking opportunities. When you stand on a beach and look off and see sails in the distance, it might just be Dave.
