David A. Black is a well-known software developer, trainer, consultant, event organizer, speaker, and author. David wrote his first computer program a long time ago.... He has a special bond with the Ruby language: he started programming in Ruby in 2000, and was a founding director of Ruby Central, Inc. A Ruby standard library contributor, David has written or contributed to a number of popular books about Ruby and Ruby on Rails, including "The Well-Grounded Rubyist", "The Rails Way", and "Ruby in Practice". David also has a Ph.D. in Cinema Studies from New York University, and taught in the Department of Communication at Seton Hall University for thirteen years before making the transition to full-time computer work. David works at 2U, Inc. in New York City.
