"Don't keep coming back, just stay." Derek Chowen was born in a tiny hospital in the little burg of Onaway, MI. Chowen was never one to sit still or settle for the status quo. From racing cars to racing sailboats, his desire for competition and pushing limits follows him wherever he goes. He has been everything from a successful tech company owner to stock broker to bank president to bartender and finally, one of the fabled "town drunks" living homeless in a pole barn. Just over four years into long term recovery, Chowen started a much needed Recovery Coaching business called "GYBE Recovery Coaching Services". He soon recognized he could reach more people by writing and podcasting so moved away from the one on one coaching practice into authoring full time. He is an advocate for the underdog, the struggling and those that need a hand up. He is a believer in the philosophy that in order to keep what you have, you need to give it away. One of his favorite lines, given to him by an Old Timer is, "Don't keep coming back, just stay" and he stands by that philosophy to this day. "If you find something that works for you, stay with it. Build a sturdy enough foundation that will stand the tests life throws at you but build it with expansion in mind. Growth is not only possible, it is critically important", said Chowen.
