Dorit Winter brings a cosmopolitan background to all her undertakings. She was born in Jerusalem, attended kindergarten in Zürich, primary school in Johannesburg and Cape Town, and junior and senior high schools in New York City. She has an MA in Comparative Literature from SUNY/Binghamton. She considers herself a writer first and foremost, although she is also a long-time painter and flute player. Her interest in education awoke in high school, leading to a life-long career of teaching both children and adults. Among the subjects she has taught are: English Literature, Creative Writing, Art History, Pedagogy, Painting and Recorder. Her most recent book about how to teach writing is Fire the Imagination, Write On! Dorit retired from teaching in 2014. She continues to be active as an author, mentor, advisor, speaker, and workshop leader. She lives with her dog, Scamp, and cat, Tuli, in the San Francisco Bay Area.
