Dr George Blair-West is an author, researcher and medical doctor specialising in psychiatry in private practice in Brisbane, Australia. He sub-specializes in trauma and relationship/sex therapy. His abiding interest is distilling the latest psychotherapeutic research, honing these insights for impactful delivery through his clinical work, and then sharing them with the greater population (see his TED talk recently featured on TED.com). He has published books and articles in the scientific and lay press on a range of subjects including suicide and depression and the psychology of weight loss. His 2013 inspirational novel, "The Way of The Quest" received three international awards and is about the ‘how to’ of finding one’s meaning and purpose in life. As one reviewer put it, 'If Paulo Coelho's 'The Alchemist' and the tale of King Arthur of Camelot had a love child, it would be "The Way of The Quest".' It picks up where 'The Alchemist' left off, and focuses more on the practical aspects of 'how to' find meaning and purpose in life. But, it is helping people make sense of relationships that he sees as his most important calling. Drawing on his 25 years as a relationship therapist, he has just published his fourth book, "How to make the biggest decision of your life - Unlocking the secrets to a healthy lasting relationship" with his dating coach daughter, Jiveny Blair-West. This has led to regular segments on The Morning Show and ABC radio in Australia. He and his psychologist wife, Penny, celebrated 33 years of marriage in 2021. They diligently road-test every strategy they bring to their work with couples!
