So, begins the opening scene of “Lost Boy Found,” Dr. Peter Gregg’s heroic and beautifully written memoir of this life altering experience, it’s impact on his mental and physical well-being, and blunting of the entire arc of his existence. Dr. Peter Gregg is a highly respected behavioral scientist who holds a Ph.D. in behavioral sciences from the University of Southern California. He has taught at several of North America’s top universities, served as a strategic consultant and leadership coach to a number large companies, entrepreneurial organizations and their key executives. Prior to graduate school and his amazing professional career as a behavioral scientist Pete worked as a young executive with the Disney Corporation in Southern California. He attended university with the help of a scholarship to play football. But even with this rich professional background Peter lived a diminished life filled with deep guilt, depression, and a loss of self. He kept the story of his rape a secret until two years ago when he was told he had a terminal disease and only had a few years left to live. He decided he could not die without telling others the true story of what happens to kids when through parental abuse and rape their lives are challenged beyond what any child can bear. It is this complex and rich understanding of human behavior that Dr. Gregg brings to his story of deep and never ending trauma that enriches the readers experience, hopefully raising their willingness to address child abuse anywhere they find it.
