Her latest book, a blockbuster memoir about her marriage to a man with Asperger's syndrome (ASD-I), releases November 12 from Vine Leaves Press. Disconnected: Portrait of a Neurodiverse Marriage is a searing exploration of a difficult relationship that illustrates the special challenges faced by couples where one partner is neurodivergent and the other is neurotypical. In a late-life romance, Eleanor marries Lars, a brilliant database expert, believing their love will last forever. But their marriage quickly devolves into angry outbursts and shutdowns. Disconnected powerfully portrays the communication misfires of a neurodiverse couple. Eleanor's memoir, Swimming with Maya: A Mother’s Story, (Dream of Things, 2013) poignantly describes the death of her 19-year-old daughter in a horse riding accident and the subsequent donation of Maya’s organs to strangers in need. Her meeting with the man who received Maya’s heart, and their ensuing friendship, is described in her memoir which was a finalist for the Independent Publisher of the Year award. Eleanor received her MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Mills College and has taught there as a visiting writer. She is a member of the Author’s Guild and the San Francisco Writers Grotto. Her work inspiring grieving donor families was recognized with a community service award from the California Transplant Donor Network.
