The Miller's Daughter, the third and final book in the Foundling School For Girls series, is coming out in June 2021. It is a story about a man obsessed with the idea of having a son, a common enough obsession for hundreds possibly thousands of years, God alone knows why since you need both sexes to procreate. Even in the twentieth century when I was young I was forever being asked 'Are you courting yet?' and I was ashamed to say that I did not have a boyfriend. I was always very bossy and independent, not a favourable way to be in the times when marriage was for almost everybody. This series of books was based on the idea that women don't marry or that there have always been women who didn't marry even though many of them were misunderstood or looked down on or as after the first world war when there was a dearth of young men. Mary Barnfather is the miller's daughter in my book and he seems intent on ruining the family through his object of gaining a son. The family, especially Mary, suffers very much from the miller's obsession. The other important person in the book is Sister Lydia a beautiful young woman from the upper classes who is told to marry a man she cannot bear as becoming a nun is her dubious solution to her problem. For a while it seems to Lydia that she has no purpose in life but that isn't so and when she comes to the Foundling School up on the wild felltops of County Durham her life goes forwards as she had never thought it would. My book, happily will be out as an ebook, in hardback, then in paperback, in large print and in audio. I do hope people have as much fun reading it as I had writing it.
