Emma Tekstra, FIA, has spent her 30-year career in employee benefits as an actuary, pension consultant and global health thought leader with experience around the globe. She has a unique perspective on health and the healthcare industry itself. For 25 years Emma held various leadership positions at Willis Towers Watson (WTW), a global insurance brokerage and consulting firm. She has consulted to many of the world’s largest employers on their health, pension and other HR programs around the world. She’s developed technology for clients to better manage their benefit programs, and for employees to gain access to information on their benefits and solutions to improve their health and wellbeing. She has also led research and data analytics on a range of employee benefits and health topics. Emma’s passion is to help individuals improve their health, and understand how to navigate a healthcare industry driven by profits. In particular, what doctors don’t know due to a training system that focuses only on pharmaceuticals and surgery to meet labelled conditions; the efficacy and validity of nutrition and other natural treatments to reverse disease; and how employers can lead the way in promoting functional and integrative medicine approaches to stem the meteoric rise in chronic disease and healthcare spending. Emma has contributed to various publications and spoken at conferences around the world. She now provides independent consulting to employers looking for real solutions to improve the health and wellbeing of their employees, and to health solution startup companies. As a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (United Kingdom), Emma is deeply rooted in the data and science of the human body and what makes it tick or break down. Her advice and recommendations emanate from this rigorous approach, whether in her writing, speaking or consulting engagements. Emma has travelled extensively for both work and fun across all continents. Originally from the UK, a year spent in Australia in the 1990s, many trips to her beloved Israel, and a stint in New York, she now lives in Southern California. She is devoted to her family and her faith. Her husband Michael is her best friend and partner in life and adventure. She has two sons (one in high-school, one in college) and two older step-kids out of the house. She is a self-confessed foodie and loves to hike, play pickleball, race go-karts, and explore the world as much as possible.
