Gary Kennedy is the former senior vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer of American Airlines. He joined the airline in 1984 and served in a variety of capacities for 30 years. Kennedy was named general counsel in January 2003, at a time when the airline was struggling to recover from the 9/11 terrorist attacks. For the next 10 years, he helped lead the airline through some of the darkest days in the history of the company. After retiring in 2014, Kennedy joined two corporate boards and spends his free time traveling, fishing and hiking. He knew that the events that took place during the twelve years following 9/11 would make for a fascinating book so he decided to tell the inside story of what really happened at the airline during times of crisis and turmoil. He joined with Terry Maxon, long-time former reporter for the Dallas Morning News and together they wrote this compelling story.
