Heather Corinna (they/them) is the founder and director of Scarleteen, the inclusive organization and online resource (scarleteen.com) for teen and young adult sexuality education and information since 1998. The author of "S.E.X.: The All-You-Need-to-Know Sexuality Guide to Get You Through Your Teens and Twenties," (2007/2016, Hachette) the upcoming "Wait, What? A Comic Book Guide to Relationships, Bodies, and Growing Up," with Isabella Rotman (Sept 2019, Oni Press) and "What Fresh Hell Is This? Perimenopause, Menopause, Other Indignities, and You—a Guide" (2021, Hachette), and a contributing editor for the 2011 edition of "Our Bodies, Ourselves," Heather has been widely published. They have also served on the editorial board of the American Journal of Sexuality Education and the Board of Directors for NARAL Pro-Choice Washington, and are the chair of the sexuality vertical for the forthcoming Our Bodies, Ourselves Today (Spring, 2022). Heather has been awarded The Champions of Sexual Literacy Award for Grassroots Activism from the National Sexuality Resource Center/SFSU in 2007; in 2009 was the winner of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, Western Region's Public Service Award and the Our Bodies, Ourselves' Women's Health Heroes Award. In 2012, they were given the Joan Helmich Educator of the Year award, and in 2013, The Woodhull Foundation's Vicki Award, for affirming sexual freedom as a fundamental human right. In 2015, Heather received the Steinem-Waters Award, given to a movement leader over 30 who has exhibited a consistent investment in developing young people in the field of reproductive justice, as well as the Golden Brick Award, recognizing their significant contributions to the field of sexuality education. An educator for over 30 years, before working in sex education specifically, Heather worked in early childhood education utilizing Montessori and unschooling methods and frameworks. Heather recently moved back to Chicago after 20 years away, and will often fill the spare three minutes they have left after work each day cultivating plant life, cooking, hanging with their dog and other friends, walking, whinging about politics on Twitter or making music.
