Helena’s work has appeared in Oprah Magazine, Marie Claire, Glamour, The New York Times, Essence, and OUT. “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes optioned Helena's first book, the memoir-in-essays “Bitch is the New Black,” as a feature film for Fox Searchlight Pictures. Rhimes described the book as “outrageously funny and heartbreakingly honest.” Helena lives in the District of Columbia with her husband and two daughters.
