I've been a reporter and columnist at the Boston Globe for over two decades, and scored an Overseas Press Club award for my writing about the Internet in Africa. I spend nearly all my time rebooting, recharging and rewriting, except when I'm reading, writing and raising tomatoes. I'm also a deacon at the Peoples Baptist Church of Boston, one of the nation's oldest black churches. I've got a couple of grown daughters, and a son in the US Marine Corps. My wife and our two other kids inhabit a nice little house in Brockton, Mass., not too far from the fairgrounds.
