Holger Hoock is a historian of the eighteenth century, specializing in the British Empire and Revolutionary America, as well as the histories of culture, war, and violence. His most recent book, SCARS OF INDEPENDENCE: AMERICA'S VIOLENT BIRTH (Crown/Penguin Random House), is available as hardcover, paperback, ebook, and unabridged audio. The book has been translated into Spanish and Chinese. AUTHOR WEBSITE: www.holgerhoock.com Hoock (b. 1972) studied History, Politics, and Law at Freiburg and Cambridge, and holds a Doctorate in Modern History from Oxford (2001). He currently serves as the J. Carroll Amundson Professor of British History at the University of Pittsburgh. He previously taught at the Universities of Cambridge and Liverpool in the UK. From 2014 to 2017 he was editor of The Journal of British Studies (NACBS/Cambridge University Press). Hoock's previous books include "The King's Artists" (2003) and "Empires of the Imagination" (2010). An elected Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, Hoock's many honors and awards include the UK's Philip-Leverhulme-Prize for internationally recognized young scholars (2006) and fellowships at, among others, the US Library of Congress, New York Public Library, Corpus Christi College Oxford, the Konstanz Institute for Advanced Study, and the University of Freiburg.
