I am a Substitute Teacher. My professional career began March 15, 1979; I worked for Union Pacific Rail Road as a Signal Engineer. Upon my hire date I was the only female, black. Who could master the position? During my tenure I was awarded the Trailblazer Award from the Black Employee Network of the Union Pacific February 23, 2012 for being the first Black Female Signal Engineer. In fact, I was the first woman, first Black woman to get hired for that position and remain in the position as Signal Engineer I was responsibilities for the installation, maintenance, repair, and safety of signal equipment within the standard operation procedures of the Federal Regulation Administration & Union Pacific Rail Road for Commuter Operations Service Area. After 35 years I retired from Union Pacific, January 30, 2014. I attended Harold Washington College and graduated with an Associate’s degree in Mathematics (1974). I developed a passion for photography and took some classes at Kennedy-King College where I graduated with an Associate’s degree in Graphic Design (2005). I continued my interest and passion for photography and furthered my education at Robert Morris University. I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Design (2008). I have a certification from Chicago Photography Academy (2014). I completed several technical and trade schools for my craft and earned my FCC license in 1986.
