Author and freelance writer Joe Cuhaj hails from New Jersey but moved to Alabama 40 years ago with his wife who is from the state's Port City, Mobile. His passion for hiking and backpacking that began in the northeast continued in his adopted state as he fell in love with Alabama’s rich biodiversity and landscapes. Combining his love of hiking and writing, the former radio broadcaster has penned thirteen outdoor recreation guides on hiking, kayaking, and camping in Alabama and the Gulf Coast. His love of history afforded him the chance to write six non-fiction history books. Three titles focus on the rich history of the 320+ year old port city of Mobile — Baseball in Mobile, Hidden History of Mobile, and A History Lover's Guide to Mobile and the Alabama Gulf Coast. He is also the author of three space and American history books for Prometheus Books - "Space Oddities: Forgotten Stories of Mankind's Exploration of Space," "Everyone's Gone to the Moon: July 1969, Life on Earth, and the Epic Voyage of Apollo 11," and "The Pig War and the Pelican Girls." Joe has produced a number of humorous short story podcasts, "Joe Cuhaj’s Shorts", that tell the story of growing up "back in the day", all loosely based on faulty memories and is a freelance writer having penned numerous articles for a variety of websites and magazines including Alabama Heritage, Travel Awaits, and many more.
