John Masouri is a British author/music journalist specialising in reggae and dancehall. Over the past 35 years he’s interviewed and written about many of the genre’s most influential and well-known figures, chiefly for Echoes Magazine (UK), Riddim (Germany) and Reggae Vibes (France.) He’s also visited Kingston, Jamaica on numerous occasions whilst documenting every period of reggae music’s rich and diverse history. A frequent contributor to regional BBC stations, he’s appeared in a number of film, radio and television documentaries. His books on reggae include 2024 bestseller Pressure Drop: Reggae In The Seventies and two previous titles for Omnibus Press – Steppin’ Razor: The Life Of Peter Tosh and an authorised biography of the Wailers called Wailing Blues: The Story of Bob Marley's Wailers, which Roger Steffens described as “one of the best books ever written on Bob Marley” and "a fan's dream come true." 2020 marked the launch of his Reggae Chronicles, published by Jook Joint Press. These anthologies include interviews and features previously unavailable in English. First in the series was Rebel Frequency, which traced the rise of Jamaica's Reggae Revival, led by artists like Chronixx, Protoje and Kabaka Pyramid. The second was The Marley Files – a collection of interviews with various Marley family members, film, music, exhibition and book reviews and in-depth features on all things related to the Marley legend. More recently, he’s ghost-written autobiographies for VP Records’ CEO Patricia Chin (Miss Pat: My Reggae Music Journey) and singer Marcia Griffiths, who’s universally hailed as “the Queen of Reggae.”
