Born in July, 1958, in Woodstock, Ontario; Julianne Peter was the third of five children born to two very loving, hardworking, entrepreneurial parents. Raised in the small community of Melbourne, Ontario. Being an adventurous child, in her late teens, Julianne hopped on a train to Saskatchewan to help family friends with childcare needs. That began her love for western Canada and she stayed and took her grade 12 at Rockglen School. It was during that time that she experienced her first brain injury from a car accident and, incidentally, met her husband, Blair Heagy. In the following years, her work took her between Ontario and Saskatchewan. Career choices started as a KFC front counter staff member, to secretarial pool at Revenue Canada, on to insurance and banking, and many years as a medical records technician. From 1997 to 2009, Julianne managed her own retail business that evolved from a gift shop into a day spa (all while continuing to work part time at local health facilities). In the years that followed, she continued to do remedial massage therapy and finally, Member Relations Officer for a large co-operative retail. Having a natural curiosity, a sense of adventure and an affinity for learning, the author completed many courses and acquired several certifications: Office Education Certificate; Fellowship of the Life Management Institute with a specialty in Selection of Risk and information Systems; Medical Record Technician (now known as Health Information Manager); Chartered Herbalist; Registered Massage Therapist, Low Intensity Laser Therapist; and a certificate in Commercial Credit Administration. In 1988, she married her long-time best friend, Blair. Their son, Jared, and daughter, Justine. completed the family soon after. In 2013, Blair was diagnosed with lung cancer which he successfully fought off. By 2015, the cancer returned, and he was deemed to have stage IV lung cancer with a rather poor diagnosis. Julianne was torn between working multiple jobs to help supplement their reduced income and spending more time with her ill husband. Her ischemic stroke in 2019 took away many things she felt were important and defined her - but also gave her the time with Blair she so desperately wanted. Blair continues to live day to day with his continuing stave IV prognosis and Julianne continues to live day to day with her acquired brain injury. The author credits an "attitude of gratitude" as the key to living a life of peace and joy inspite of the struggles she's experienced.
